Tom Little was in effervescent, confident mood at the press conference ahead of his English heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois earlier today. The two big men will meet on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO title defence at the O2 on June 23rd. Accusing Dubois’ former opponents of losing their nerve in the face of his power, or “bum twitching” as Tom put it. Little stressed that Dubois is untested as yet, having in his opinion never fought anyone who has come to win.
Dubois will be favourite, and was unsurprisingly self-assured as well, although not one to ever have been accused of being verbose. Dubois spoke very little, unlike Little who had the room chuckling with his bon mots. When asked if he was worried about being taken into “deep waters” as Tom claimed, undefeated Dubois-who has stopped all of his opponents so far, simply replied, “no not really.”
Having gone away to face the fearsome Filip Hrgovic in his last fight, Little has proved he’s a “fighting man” in Frank Warren’s words. “My pride can’t be bought”, Tom said, claiming, “I will make him miss, and make him pay, from round one to round ten, or before.”
It is an intriguing clash, almost certain to at some points descend into the “shootout” Warren called it. Little’s experience and movement will see Dubois tested more than he has been so far.
The heavyweight also not the only English title clash on the cards, as #TeamSouthpawJab’s Darryll Williams, unbeaten and reigning super middle champion of the country has another grudge match; this time against Lennox Clarke. When asked afterwards, Frank Warren described that one as a “tear up.”
