Inzar Ahmed learned his trade as a boxing coach from the very best in the business. After studying the game in the USA and working alongside the likes of Freddie Roach and Roger Mayweather, as well as working with Amir Khan, ‘Inzy’ has come back to Bradford to make a difference in communities. He believes his new boxing gym, Lights Out Boxing Academy, can do just that.
“I’ve been around the country working in various camps and there was a lot of demand for me to come back to Bradford and do something here with the community” he told Southpaw Jab. “It’s all about taking kids off the street and building some champions. That’s why I opened this gym”.
Inzy’s coaching credentials are beyond doubt, he proudly displays photographs of his work with Mayweather, Roach and Khan around the gym and he’s currently working with Olympian, Muhammad Ali. “I’ve been working with Ali for four years now,” he says. “I trained and prepared him for the Olympics and two the WSB’s. He’s a great kid to train and be around. He’s a machine”. The coach also insists that Ali’s presence is a massive boost to the gym. “The other kids just buzz off him. Just watching him. They know where the bar is and what they need to do to become good boxers. He brings the best out of me as well.”
So far, it seems, the gym is already having a big impact in the area. Open for only ten months the gym has already attracted over a hundred kids and hosted a hugely successful first amateur show. Their opening amateur show attracted unbelievable interest. “It was a huge turnout. 1300 people turned up and we had more or less everything there, smoke-blowers, disco lights, massive crowd, ring walks. It was an amazing atmosphere! We had sixteen fighters on the show and it was a really big success. Most of the money went to charity as well!”
